Study Day

The Lamport Study Day returns after a successful comeback in 2024.
Speakers include eminent historians, authors and academics, sure to make for a fascinating day for all history and art enthusiasts.
The schedule for the study day is as follows:
10:30am - Arrival with tea, coffee and biscuits
11am - Karen Hearn on 'The Works, Biography and Context of the painter Cornelius Johnson'
12pm - Break for lunch and opportunity to explore the gardens and purchase any books
1pm - Dr Ruth Larsen on women and country houses
2pm - Break for tea
2:30pm - Leslie Primo on The Foreign Invention of British Art
3:30pm - Question time with the speakers and the chance to purchase/get books signed
4pm - Event closes
Karen Hearn is a Historian of British art and culture c.1500-c.1710 and exhibition curator. Previously the Curator of 16th & 17th Century British Art at the Tate Galleries (1992-2012), she is now Honorary Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at UCL.
Dr Ruth Larsen is a Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Derby with a particular interest in British History in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Her main area of research is in the history of British country houses and their families with a special interest in gender relations, letter writing practices, and the role of the country house in local, national and international networks.
Leslie Primo is an independent art historian author and broadcaster, graduating from Birkbeck, University College, London with an MA in Renaissance studies. He lectured at the National Gallery, London for 18 years, has appeared on the BBC speaking in Renaissance: The Blood and the Beauty, and on the Life of Michelangelo, and presented Turner: Light and Landscape. He was a contributor to the Oxford Companion Guide to Black British History, an art history consultant for the Getty publication, Balthazar: A Black African King in Medieval and Renaissance Art and was published by the Royal Academy Magazine for the Entangled Pasts exhibition, 2023-2024. Leslie’s book, ‘The Foreign Invention of British Art’ was published by Thames & Hudson in 2025.
£60pp to include tea, coffee and biscuits on arrival, a buffet lunch and a tea break with biscuits in the afternoon. Student price - £40.
