Internship at Lamport Hall

Lamport Hall

This internship has been created to assist a student at the University of Leicester reading for an M.A. "The Country House:  Art, History and Literature" both financially and to give them experience to start them off in their career aspirations by gaining practical knowledge and experience working in an historic house on a country estate.

The internship is for one year commencing Autumn 2010.  The Intern will be expected to enter fully into life at Lamport Hall and work with the Executive Director and his staff for 1 or 2 days a week during the winter rising to 3 or 4 days a week during the summer season.  The Intern must be adaptable and willing to 'pitch in' and work at all levels.  A job description will be supplied to candidates.

The Intern will be provided with a large private bed-sitting room in Flat 3 but may have to share a kitchen and bathroom for part of their stay.  This accommodation is free of rent and Council Tax and has free background heating.  Electricity will have to be paid for and also a TV Licence, if required.  The Intern will need a car to get to the University in Leicester as Lamport is a rural location and public transport is limited.  In addition to free accommodation for the year, Lamport Hall will pay half of the Intern's basic course fee, i.e. £1,800.

The Intern will be allowed 10 days holiday during the year, 3 of which must be taken between Christmas and New Year, the remainder can be taken at any time agreed with the Executive Director.  Time off in lieu will be given for any weekend work and at the Executive Director's discretion time will be given to attend Study Days and Seminars organised by The Centre for the Study of the Country House.

Interested parties should apply for details of the Masters course to The Centre for the Study of the Country House www.le.ac.uk/ha/countryhouse and send a C.V. with the names of at least two referees together with a covering letter of application to The Executive Director, Lamport Hall, Lamport, Northampton, NN6 9HD  or by email to admin@lamporthall.co.uk.  The internship will only be offered to a candidate who has secured a place on the Masters course with the Centre for the Study of the Country House at the University of Leicester.
